Theology Of
Missions
Missiology
Missiology: An Introduction to the Foundations, History, and Strategies of World Missions is a book on missions that Dr. Scott Bridger recommended to me. He sent me a PDF file of chapter three that he wrote with Bruce Ashford. Chapter three is called Missiological Method, and it is about what it means to be a missionary and how social sciences fit into missions.
-
Missiology- a theological discipline, that is undertaken in conversation with Scripture, church history, and the social sciences and in consideration of its cultural context.
-
A Missional Theologian has several tools, such as Scripture, reason, culture, experience, and tradition of Christain theology.
-
"The partnership between missiology and the social sciences should be mutually beneficial, as each discipline informs the other and together they work toward a fuller understanding of reality."
-
Communication theory can help missionaries communicate the gospel.
-
Marketing theory can help missionaries promote certain literature and classes.
-
Christain theology provides a broad framework that explains humanity.
-
-
Missionaries must know the cultural context they are working in so that they can effectively spread the gospel.
