1st Week

This week, I completed all the forms for A.B.L.E. and they were approved to be sent out through the school. All that is left to do for the forms is make copies and have them sent out through Laura Reeves and Read Turrentine. I also started the Bible study material. I have decided to focus on Jesus' parables for the two weeks. Since Jesus used parables to teach people about him, it follows the theme - Always Believe In The Lord's Enabling.

2nd Week

The start of the after school program is quickly approaching, so this week, I focused on finalizing the registration packet for the students and working with Laura Reeves and Read Turrentine to send them out to the students. I realized that I am going to need nine hundred and fifty copies of the registration packet in order to send one home with every student in second through fifth grade. I started by turning to Pinecrest Baptist Church for help with the money it costs to have all those copies made, and recieved a donation from a few anonymous donors large enough to cover the full cost. I will have them made over Spring Break and send them out the week school starts again.

3rd Week

The A.B.L.E. program is quickly approaching, and I have worked all week to make sure the schedule is all worked out. I sent out the registration packets to all the students at Read Turrentine and Laura Reeves. I went to the schools everyday so I could pick up the forms. By the end of the week, I had thirty-six students. I also had a proctor meeting with Mrs. Helton, and she helped define the schedule for the program. She reminded me that these students will have a short attention spand and that I need to have transitions about every twenty minutes to keep their attention.

4th Week

I called all the parents in both session one and session two this week in order to ensure all the parents know their children are signed up. I also made sure the schedule I have been planning for several weeks was going to fill the two hours. Just in case, I made a list of games the children to play.

5th Week

This was the first week of the after school program. Everything went well, and the children really seem to have fun at the program. Even though this was a very good first week, there were still many challenges. Maintaining discipline was the main challenge throughout the week. Many of the children do not have a sense of discipline; however, at ABLE they will understand that they must have discipline.

6th Week

The last week of the first session went very well; however, it was challenging. The children became comfortable with the volunteers and acted out. Because of this, I implicated an award system. If a child did not go to timeout the whole day, they received a piece of candy at the end. The reward system worked, and I will be implementing it in the next session. I also gave my speech this week. I received constructive feedback and determined that I need to organize my ideas better.
