1st Week
This week, I spent researching the poverty levels in Silsbee, Texas. I found population maps online and found the highest levels on poverty to be concentrated along the street, West Martin Luther King Drive. This is important for me to know because it will help decide where I need to hold the after school program.
2nd Week
I have reviewed my progress over the last six weeks and delievered it to my classmates in a speech. These speeches took all week to deliever so not much else was done. I did contact Jo Lynn Hawk, and I set up a meeting for Saturday at 3:30. I plan to talk to her about my product idea and hear any ideas she has that could help.
3rd Week
I had my first mentor meeting this week. Mrs. Jo Lynn told me that she really liked my project and told me I should be volunteer at Boys and Girls Club. That would give me some experience that I will need to start a program. The rest of the week, I starting getting focused on nailing down some specifics on my after school program ideas.
4th Week
I did a lot of work with my project this week, including setting up a scheldule of what I want to happen at the program. I also got several contacts from my hair stylist, Debbie Hawthorne. She knows several people that do social work. I do not have the list right now, but she will send me the people over the break.
Christmas Break
I met with Mrs. Jo Lynn Hawk and had my first mentor meeting in person. She answered many of my questions and helped me start the process of creating an after school program. I also continued my research while organizing a plan to start an after school program.
5th Week
I called the superintendent, Mr. Bain, on Monday and obtained the information on requesting the Frank Robinson Center building. He gave me a building request form to fill out and turn back in to get the building; however, I need to call him back next week to get some clearification. I also considered my final presentation and the things I need for it. I decided I need to take a lot of pictures during my process. I talked to my youth pastor about my project, and he told me he would video the process for me and edit a video that I can use.
6th Week
This week was spent mostly gathering my resources in order to start my final APA paper. I also continued my planning for the after school program. I started an example schedule and planned different activities I could do with the kids. As the semester comes to a close, I am very excited with the work I have accomplished and I am even more excited with where my project is headed.
