Jo Lynn Hawk

1.) How did God call you to be a missionary?

It was over a long spand of time. She grew up in a Christian home with a loving Christian family. She first felt the call to missions when she was twenty-six and working at Silsbee High Scool as a counselor. Over the next two years, God revealed her calling to New York City.

2.) How did you get from there to answering God's call?

She went on short-term mission trips and felt like God was calling her to work full-time.

3.) What are some missions you have done?

The only long term mission trip she has done is Graffiti 2.

4.) How has your mission work evolved over the years?

She does not do full-time missions anymore, but her job is her ministry. She reminded me that we should be missionaries no matter what we do.

5.) How did you know it was time to move on to the next stage in your life?

She prayed and God showed her how He had gifted her. When her gifts were no longer needed at Graffiti 2, she knew it was time to move on.

6.) If you knew then what you know now, what would you do differently?

She had to raise her own funds to go to New York. She would have raised more funds because having to deal with her limited money was stressful to her. Having more funds would have allowed her to fully focus on her mission work.

7.) What kind of gifts has God given you to equip you to be a missionary?

She feels like God has gifted her with teaching and counseling.

8.) Who did God put in your life to equip you?

Her mom and dad equipped her by raising her in a Christian home.

9.) What are some needs that you see?

God calls Christians to love and support orphans and widows. God has gifted everyone differently, but He calls everyone to love people.

10.) What are some resources or contacts you would recommend to me?

Andrew Mann is the director of Graffiti 2, and she suggests I talk with him. She also said I should talk to a man in Galveston who is also a director of missions.

11.) What would you do if you were taking this course?

She would talk to as many people as possible. She would also try to find ways to incorporate missions in everyday life. Not every Christian is a full-time missionary, but every Christian is called to missions.

12.) Would you mind helping me in the future?

She would not mind helping me and wants to hear about my final project when I complete it.
